BHGS Emily Coyne Sportswoman of the Year Award
2008 By Butch Coyne, Coach & Parent
Each year, the coaches and managers from each division select one girl from their division to receive the Emily Coyne Sportswomen of the Year Award. The girls chosen represent the best in demonstrating sportsmanship, friendship, and fair play.
Emily was part of the Branham Hills Softball family for five years before she lost her battle with cancer in the summer of 2003. Emily “Scooter” Coyne loved to play softball and loved Branham Hills Girls softball. In spite of battling cancer for years, she always played with spirit, determination, and friendship.
Branham Hills selects one player from each division each year to receive the Emily “Scooter” Coyne Sportswomen of the Year Award.
Throughout the season, coaches and managers are asked to nominate girls they feel meet the highest standards of sportsmanship, friendship, and fair play. This award is not about choosing the “best” player on a team but nominating a girl who demonstrates these qualities.
At the end of the season, the BHGS Board of Trustees will review the nominations and select one player from each division to receive the award. The players selected will be recognized during the BHGS closing ceremonies. The recipients of this award will be listed on a plaque, which will be displayed in the BHGS snack shack. They will also receive a $25 gift certificate and be recognized in our yearbook each season.
BHGS Tina Martinetti Coach of the Year Award
BHGS would like to thank each and every coach who dedicates their time to the coaching of these girls. Coaching takes a special person to step up and commit. Thank you for being that person.
The Branham Hills Girls Softball Coach of the year Award is dedicated to Tina Martinetti.
Tina had a contagious personality and Tina loved to laugh. Even if she didn’t know you, when you met her she made you feel like you had been friends for years. Tina was the type of coach who believed in all the players. She not only coached her team, but also was ready and willing to mentor new coaches, assist a player that was struggling, even if she was on the opposing team.
Each year, representatives (parents, players, opposing coaches) from Branham Hills select one coach from their division to receive the Tina Martinetti Coach of the Year Award. The coaches chosen represent the league in demonstrating a positive coaching style, good sportsmanship, dedication, and fair play. At the end of the season the BHGS Board of Trustees will review the nominations and will select one coach from each division to receive the award. The coaches selected will be recognized during the BHGS closing ceremonies. The recipients of this award will be listed on a plaque, which will be displayed in the BHGS snack shack and they will also be recognized in our yearbook each season.
