TEAM MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As a team manager, your primary responsibility is the safety of each player on your team. The manager has the authority to act in the players' best interest. This may mean taking any action necessary, including suspending a practice or game in an unsafe environment.

  • You have an essential role in communicating with your team's families. Most communications to families are generated through Team Snap. You are the liaison with the parents (adults). You will inform them of league events and coordinate volunteers for the banner, visors, snack shack, team snacks, and opening day.

  • Be in control of the dugout and a role model to the girls on your team. This can be an enriching experience. You are in the dugout to make sure the girls are ready to bat when it is their turn, know where they are playing on the field, drink water when it's hot, encourage them to cheer when their team is up to bat, and make sure the players have fun.

  • At the start of season practices:

  • Confirm names (nicknames), phone numbers, and email addresses

  • Come up with a team name

  • Assign a parent to make or order a banner

  • Assign a parent to decorate visors (if applicable) - no pins, buttons, or player names on visors.

  • Assist with filling all staff positions: Manager, Head Coach, assistant, coach, and field set-up helper.

  • Share essential information and parent requirements for – Opening Day, Hit A Thon, Pictures, Closing Ceremonies, etc.

  • Discuss volunteer commitments (e.g., snack shack)

  • Discuss fundraising

  • Check-in regularly with your division representative. Your representative is your liaison with the BHGS board members. The Division rep is there to assist you with any issues you may have with your team, coordinating such items as field preparation for the game and information for BHGS events.

  • Coordinate Photo Day. Distribute picture day envelopes and help corral the team for pictures at your assigned time. Each family and coach receives a complimentary team photo. Additional images can be purchased. Each player must fill out a form to receive their picture. Picture pick-up is at Alta Vista Field.

  • Assign snack shack duty to families. Each home team is required to have one parent work in the snack shack. Games will start only when the home team’s snack shack volunteer reports to the Snack Shack. Some families may need to work more than one game.

  • Team snacks are encouraged but not required for Little Hitters to 8U teams for practices and games.

    • For team practices, families may bring snacks.

    • $1 or $2 snack shack tickets are preferable for games.

    • The snack shack will be open during and after games, and snack shack sales support the league.

  • Distribute trophies and yearbooks at the end of the season. If a player cannot make a closing ceremony or team party, the manager must arrange for the player to receive these items.

  • Arrange an end-of-season party. If desired, it's fun for the team to get together for pizza or at a family's house.

  • Collect for coach gift, if desired.

TEAM MANAGER REQUIREMENTS

  • Register with BHGS as a team manager.  LINK

  • Before the season begins, every manager must pass the ASA Background check, Safe Sport and Concussion training through USA Softball.

  • This process can take up to a week to complete and costs $25.

  • Please email your certifications or other items to playeragent@bhgs.net

  • Certifications expire every year on August 30, and you must re-certify for next year.

  • Failure to complete your ACE Coaching Certification will bar you from the playing field.

Additional Requirements

  • USA Softball requires concussion training and must be completed every two years.

  • Managers Clinics: Attend all coaching clinics (required). These are paid for by BHGS at no cost to you. The league will communicate the dates and times of the clinics.

  • Hit-A-Thon: Each team staff member is asked to help line the girls up, ensure every girl hits, and measure the distance their players hit. The division reps will also be on the field to assist as needed.
